Learning
At INSTEP UDTP, our learners have the opportunity to perform real activities on a live plant under non-hazardous environment. The UDTP allows room for error, enabling the learners to understand those errors prior to performing operational and maintenance tasks at live plants safely and efficiently. Through hands-on training as well as experiential learning guided by our experienced and qualified instructors, we can enhance our learners’ competencies and equip them with the right skills of tomorrow.
Some activities related to learning at UDTP include:
- Training to support learning modules
- Student visit (physical or virtual)
- Live demonstration of practical work
- Job familiarisation or On Job Training (OJT)
- Plant turn-around
- Plant process & coordination
- Plant start-up & shutdown
- Plant maintenance training

Beyond Learning
INSTEP has always supported the research & development of latest industry & technology solutions in the energy industry. Its capability to simulate real Upstream and Downstream plant scenarios in a safe environment makes it a suitable testbed to test and pilot new and innovative technology deployment in safe operating conditions before the full commercial application.
A prime example is when UDTP is being used as the first testing facility for 5G deployment in oil & gas industry, through a 3-month feasibility study on remote controlling and monitoring of INSTEP’s UDTP Water System from PETRONAS Research Sdn. Bhd. (PRSB) via fibre optic, coupled with CCTVs, drones, head mounted, and AnyMal (platform robot). Read more about the 5G deployment here.
As a technology acceleration enabler, the real-world technology deployment at UDTP can be customised according to your schedule without having a shutdown window.
